Greensboro College takes USAS opener/Guilford drops ODAC curtain raiser

Fayetteville, N.C. — Brittany Hunsucker (Jamestown, NC/Ragsdale) had a match-high 13 kills as the Greensboro College volleyball team opened USA South Conference play with a 3-1 (25-11, 25-18, 16-25, 25-13) win at Methodist.

The Pride improved to 8-3, 1-0 and the Monarchs are now 4-4, 0-1.

Sha McDuffie (Winston-Salem, NC/Parkland) added 12 kills and Dana Sandknop (Summerfield, NC/Northwest Guilford) passed 32 assists for Greensboro. Hillary McPhatter spiked 11 kills for MU.

GC next hosts Mary Baldwin and NC Wesleyan in a tri-meet on Saturday.

*GENERALS TAKE ODAC OPENER FROM QUAKERS, 3-1*

*GREENSBORO, N.C. (9/14/10) –* Guilford College’s volleyball team dropped
its Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener 25-16, 18-25, 23-25,
13-25 against visiting Washington and Lee. The generals have now won 19
straight matches against the Quakers, dating back to 1997.

The Quakers came out strong and took the lead 6-5 off a *Traci Teague* kill
and never looked back enroute to winning the first set 25-16. Washington
and Lee (4-1, 1-0 ODAC) got things rolling and claimed the next three sets
to record the win. *M.A. Boles* recorded 17 kills and *Louise Brooks* added
10 to pace the way for the Generals. *Nikki DelZenero* had a game high 36
assists and teammates *M.A. Boles* and *Cameron Hill* came up big with 42
and 25 digs, respectively.

Guilford (6-5, 0-1 ODAC) was lead by two juniors, *Traci Teague* and *Emma
Gunn*, who each had 10 kills. Tonight seemed to be the night to contribute
as Quaker two players had the same number of kills and another two players
shared the same number digs. *Courtney Kozar* and *Mary Moody* shared a
team-high 22 digs while *Taylor Phillips* came up with a team-high 13
assists and *Taylor Whitley* added 12.

The Quakers will look to bounce back and even up their Old Dominion
Conference record when they travel to Eastern Mennonite on Saturday (9/18)
to take on the Royals at 1:00 p.m.
