Rosco Turner, the boys basketball coach at Parkland for the past three seasons, died Wednesday morning.

Principal Tim Lee of Parkland had very few details, saying that the office received a call this morning with the news of Turner’s death.

“I think he had gone in (to the hospital) for some sort of what was normally considered a routine procedure, and obviously it wasn’t routine,” Lee said. “And I don’t know for sure, that what’s being passed through the rumor mill.
“He was a great person and he and I go back 20, 25 years and I have a great respect for him personally and professionally.”

Turner, who played basketball at Pfeiffer, was the head coach at North Davidson from 1993 to 1998 and also spent four-year stints as the head coach at East Forsyth and Lexington. He was also an assistant coach at Reynolds. Turner was a native of New York.
