Guilford College cross country running strong in Boone

BOONE, N.C. – Guilford College’s Derick Kosgei set the school cross country record for a 6.4-kilometer course Friday with a time of 20:48.3 at the Mountaineer Open. He placed 21st in the 86-man field and helped the Quakers place fifth among six NCAA Division I and Division II teams in the race. Guilford missed fourth place by one point to East Tennessee State
University. Guilford’s Chad Norton ran the school’s second-fastest
6.4-kilometer time in history (21:09.4) and took 26th in the meet.

Taylor Stokes (Advance, N.C./Davie) paced Guilford’s women with a time of 20:36.1 in the five-kilometer women’s race. She missed her own school record by seven seconds and placed 34th among 59 runners. The Quakers did not record a team score.

Both cross country teams are back in action Oct. 1 at the Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C.
