  1. NG was down 10-7 in the second half and then they took over. Daniel Downing was running the option really well and he made some good passes to Maurice Harris. On the defensive side, NG stopped the bigger EA team by playing sound fundamental defense. NG doesn’t beat itself. Coach Roscoe knows how to coach football. NG does all of the little things well. Good job Nighthawks!

  2. Oh jeez. Grimsley is bad. Western Guilford, who lost to Page by 50 last Friday, beat the Swirlies. And Coach Gillespie has two weeks to get the Pirates ready for their annual grudge match against Grimsley.

One thing, though. Overconfidence could be a problem if Coach Gillespie is not careful. I am hoping he is extra tough on his team leading up to the game next Friday. Grimsley will be sky high for the Page game. They have nothing left to play for this year. Beating Page would be the equivalent of the state championship.

I don’t think Gillespie will let the Pirates get complacent. And I think Grimsley could be in for a very long evening.

  3. Woo Hoo! Andy, sorry about your picks!! Northern is just that good! Even without KA ! We miss him terribly, but give the boys some love now, they are just that good. Not so sure with the above comment about the sound fundamental defense, saw a lot of missed tackles out there that could have drove that score up. But a well fought game. Loving the Win no one was guessing we would come away with!!!!

  4. Good job NG Nighthawks….You proved me wrong and the way it is looking, Northern might be better this year as a whole, as a team, than they were last year….I’ve had you guys at #2 in the weekly poll and it looks like you aren’t going anywhere any time soon…..

Good work and a big win for you tonight over Eastern Alamance…

  5. Andy, could please let Brian over at News 2 know the name of the kid QBing at Northern. His “game of the week” report seems to refer to him as Danny Danrey. Don’t think we know that kid………….What up???

  6. Hey Andy I heard you were at the Southeast vs Smith game…Dont know what happened can u tell me ..When i left Smith had the ball in their own territory with about 5 mins to go i heard a awwww from the Southeast crowd but it wasnt a score from Smith…..Mike Fields had maybe 12-15 carries ….why not more?????Southeast should have blown Smith Outt…..Mistakes ..Smith fought through all their mistakes and practically handing or throwing the game to Southeast …….Good Job Smith on being mentally tough tonight……

  7. All of the players referenced are someone’s son and I know their parents are extremely proud of each and everyone of them, I know I am proud of mine! I’m sure your mom & dad are proud of you as well. Why do some of you insist on comparing Maurice to Keenan? They are two different gentlemen who are special players in their own ways. We all still love Keenan, but he is the past and Maurice and the current Nighthawks are today. Hope you have a blessed weekend!!

  8. Knowone ever said Maurice Harris was as good as Keenan. He is good at what he does which is make plays. Sounds like to me you are drunk on Haterade. Go nighthawks keep it rolling. Back 2 back undeafeated conference champs.

  9. Great game at SE last night. Had at least three dropped interceptions which may have been a game changer. I think many thought SE would bring the trickery but Smith is the one with the tricks that worked last night . Our kids played hard and hung with the strongest team in the county. Our offensive line blew defenders off the line most of the night. If we had any kind of passing game to mix it up and a little stronger secondary we would be hard to stop.

Smith played hard and found a way to win when the game was on the line. I’m sure our defense saw #7 in their sleep last night. For a small kid that kid can MOVE! Also classy for Smith to take a knee when they probably could have pushed one in as time was expiring.

  10. I was down at SEG and the Falcon power running game is very strong…..It was Fields, Haynesworth and Petty last night and Fields is a horse and maybe like a Secritariet, but SEG was wise to mix in Petty and Haynesworth too….

Nice shuttle pass by Austin Bain, the holder, on the two-point conversion play to Petty, but the runner’s knee had hit the ground and a solid pass by Will Greene to Brent Frazier, wide open in the middle of the field for the TD play….

When the score was 35-30 Smith and SEG had the ball, the Falcons were in position to win…..SEG was in this game and what gets you and I don’t think any of us could do any better, all of us young and old alike, is the BIG PLAY capability of Smith….It is so hard to contain….

The Smith receivers are so tough to cover and they are always making the BIG PLAYS…..Try and stop Ebron, good luck with single coverage, try and keep up with Cody Davis and he makes a circus-like catch and he burns you….Fake punt pass play from Cody Davis to Mike Millner for a TD and there is another BIG PLAY…..

If you are a DB on an island, it can get lonely and treacherous out there trying to stay with the Smith receivers and when you have a tall QB in Sims, that can see the whole field and they use the whole field, it can become a field day for the Golden Eagles….

SEG had to work so hard for most of their TD’s with the exception of the fumble recovery inside the five and then Smith pops you for a BIG PLAY and they score so quick……

There is something about the leg power of Daniel Downing at Northern Guilford…..With the left-handed toss and the way he uses his legs and arms, he may be stronger at QB than Rocco and that is take nothing away from Scarfone…..The muscle structure in the legs may be different….They used to refer to that as the fast-twitch muscle mass versus the slow-twitch muscle structure/muscle mass….

Harris is more of pure receiver than Keenan and he is a very good one and a tall target…..Keenan could do so many different things and Harris can too, but he seems to specialize in hauling in the ball….Both young men were and are outstanding players….

We are lucky to have so much of this talent in Guilford County…..I was watching WFMY TV 2 highlights last night and you see Downing, and then there’s Cunningham and then Sims and Simpson to Travon Woods, and the new kid Hayes at Dudley, and many others, the list could go on and on and it will continue to grow…..

Another big week last week and the Collision Courses Continue…..Page-Grimsley this week, plus NWG and HP Central and then the following week it is Page-Smith and NWG-Ragsdale…..

The Fun has just Begun and we have to run…..

  11. Harris is no way as good as a reciever then Allen, Harris has better hands, yet he does not have the ability to turn a hitch int a big play.
He is more of a possesion receiver as Allen is more of a playmaker.
Downing isn’t a better QB than Scarfone but is a better Runner than Scarfone, He is a lot bigger while
Scarfone is a skinny kid Downing is a thick Tim Tebow kind of build.

  12. How in the world did Grimsley stop SEG from running. #1 and #2 run HARD.

    # 7 for Smith reminded me of 2time Hiesman winner Archie Griffin

You guys are right Harris is not th reciever that Allenwas, But the Kid is the best Damn QB in the county. He would be better than QB at Hillside if he were playing his true position.

  13. We at the “BIG D “is still the boss in town. We whipped up on Northern and they want no part of this business. We are gearing up for the palyoffs. Enjoy while you can. ITS PANTHER TIME!

  14. Jumping in a little late but wanted to get my two cents in. EA-NG was a great game last night between two very good teams, who should both once again make some noise in the playoffs. Was very impressed by Downing last night, and although I’ve only seen NG twice (last year and this year) I think he is the better choice at qb for the Nighthawks with their undersized line they need someone who is very mobile and Downing certainly fits the bill. He was the biggest factor player-wise in the game last night, and the difference maker.

Both teams are very well coached (someone mentioned miss tackles, it went both ways and I think had more to do with both teams players making guys miss) and I think the biggest thing was what I was concerened the most about heading into the game, turnovers. EA turned it over four times, three in the redzone and we can’t do that against a team as good as NG. Another big thing was how well NG responded after we took the lead, they just drove down the field and put it in.

Great game and atmosphere, good luck to NG the rest of the way!

  15. HPC 40
    East Forsyth 21

    Ragsdale 10
    East Forsyth 7

    Hmm.. a little foreshadowing maybe?
    Posted by Bisonherd

Yeah – sounds like Central’s defense might be a little weak…

  16. HPC 40
    East Forsyth 21

    Ragsdale 10
    East Forsyth 7

    Hmm.. a little foreshadowing maybe?

and Dudley lost to Smith 28-0, SE lost to smith by 11, Grimsley beat SE, WG beat Grimsley……. GIVE ME A BREAK! dont play that sorecard game, u sound so ignorant!!

  17. LOL, Hey Mike it’s fairly routine to compare how two teams fared against an common opponent, it’s not fool-proof of course on how they will fare against each other, wasn’t even attempting to make that claim just some football talk, but its’ far from being a ignorant statement, you obvious genius.

Mark, I do understand why you would say that, but in defense of the defense, HPC was up 40-12 with 4:00 mins left in the game and so the backups were in the game when East forsyh got that last TD other than that the game was over midway through the 3rd.

Great win and comeback though by Ragsdale thats what good teams do, I do feel however though if your offense sputters against HPC as was the case aginst EF there wouldn’t be any two minute rally comebacks because that game would be long over!

  18. then why do u continue you to do it week after week after week………the only thing routine is your constant comparisons to who u beat, who they beat, what the weather was like… what u were wearing! lol

  19. Do what week after week?

Lol, I was given Andy a hard time about the weekly poll rankings but it was all in sport, I stated my opinion like everyone else on here does. Glad you took notice though.

It actually looks like I was right about alot of what I was saying, because I don’t see HPC ranked in the 7 to 8 range in the poll like they were at the start of the season.

As far as the last thing you typed, let’s just say I don’t roll like that pimp.

  20. This 6’3 285 pound frame doesnt care what u wear pimp, i was just poking fun at you. Good luck to your bison, heck of a season so far!
