Golf World National Poll has Greensboro ranked #1

NEW YORK, NY— Greensboro College is ranked first in the Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches’ Poll.

A victory at the Golf week Fall Invitational propelled Greensboro to the top spot in the poll, after coming in seventh in the preseason ranking. The Pride defeated several ranked programs, including previous No. 1 Methodist, to kick off their 2010-11 season. The victory secured them 17 of the 18 first-place votes.

“Obviously, we are very proud of the recognition,” GC Head Coach Dirk Fennie said. “We have a veteran team, and they are working to be the best they can be. We’re looking forward to the next tournament, and continuing success this year.”

Huntingdon remained No. 2 after finishing second to Greensboro in the Fall Invitational. Methodist dropped to third in the poll with a fourth place finish in the opening tournament. Skidmore (No. 4) and St. John’s (Minn.) (No. 5) round out the top-five.

No new teams joined the top-10. Texas Lutheran (No. 19), St. Olaf (No. 21), Gustavus Adolphus (No. 24) and Wisconsin-Eau Claire (No. 25) moved into the top-25.
