Mid-Morning MadHouse 10am-12 Noon, Lunatics Lunch Hour from Noon till 2pm and the Afternoon DeFight from 2-6pm…..

Got any new Gripes or Complaints?????

This is the box for Wednesday/Thursday October 6-7, 2010. We are taking those gripes and complaints and we have to remind you to keep it real on your subject matter.

We will be cleaning out the box at the end of each day and we may have to do some cleaning throughout the day if the material gets too thick.

Local gripes or complaints, National gripes or complaints. Is there anything that is rubbing you the wrong way? How about that coaching change or the kid that just left one high school/college and is transferring to another? What about the kid that got left off the All-Conference team or the All-State team?

Is there a school board member that really has you upset???

Let us know, and by the way, do you have anything new for us today?????

  1. Here are some good ones that we had left over from yesterday:

I am complaining about the three special teams errors with the Dolphins Special Teams last night that resulted in not one not two but three NE touchdowns!! That is junk

How does Miami get a lead on New England and just let them come back? When you get a lead on the Patriots you have to put them away….You can’t let them back in the game….The Patriots will run off and leave you…..That Tate kid from Burlington/UNC is a good example. He has been killing people on his returns…

Is it true that Coach Roy “Spaceman” Thompson is going to ORMA to jumpstart the Track program there? I have a source that says he was going to and the whole incident at A&T just served as a catalyst.

  2. Whats up with this kid Tyler Alberts from Forsyth County Day I believe getting a football scholarship offer to UNC and only having played five games total of football? Also he was suppose to graduate and 2010, why is he in the class of 2011? All I have found out is that he “re-classed” as a junior when he transferred, but what the heck is “re-classing”? Is that legal, and to gain more interest from sports? See that is why these schools have an unfair advantage becaue they can recruit the best player from public schools and “re-class” them or they play a fith year of sports against kids musch younger or physically developed. This is crazy.

  3. I saw that somewhere too, wish I could remember where I saw it….N&R or WRALSportsFan.com…..They said the kid had only been playing football one year…

  4. Welcome to the wonderful world of reclassing! Kids from public school that got to private school normally take an exam to see where they fit in academically. If they are not up to speed, they will get reclassed to a lower grade. This is also done for athletic reasons. It gives them one more year to develop physically and mentally. I don’t know why anybody would want to stay another year in high school, but people do this. For some kids, it does help them mature.

  5. Hi All,
Just thought I’d throw this in there….I don’t know anything about this particular situation, it’s not just the athletes that get tested….all students are tested and then placed at the appropriate grade level to their testing. What this is, is a glaring failure of the public school system’s ability to educate our children. When we switched our kids over to a private Christian school they tested 1 to 2 years below their grade level in most subjects even though they were honor roll students from their previous school. I’d rather have kids backing up a grade level & learning the basic education skills that will carry them thru life, rather then worrying about an extra year of football or basketball….

  6. So extra educational activities were you doing with/for your kids when they got home? Sounds like the finger is getting pointed.
But is this fair to allow a kid to get an extra year to develop athletically, especially if they dont test in the grade in which they are aged at? They have more important things to worry about other than playing a sport.

  7. Great point Bamm Bamm. I have 4 children, and I also had the problem when we decided to put our children in a Christian private school. My 2 oldest were very behind due to our public education. My younger 2 went from K-7th grade, and are now in public school. They are doing very well, since they got the basic education, and discipline at early ages. I worked with my older 2 sometimes for hours with homework while they were in early grades at public school. The respect for others and oneself is very different when they get the basics at home and school. As for being able to play a sport by being held down I’m sure there is an age limit in all school systems. Good luck to this young man. If he’s only played one year he is lucky to get the education to allow him to go to a D1 school.

  8. What all these parents who let their kids “reclass” either for academic or athletic reasons don’t realize is they are being locked in to paying for their child’s education for an extra year. Private schools are a business too and reclassing is good for business.

  9. 2 reasons we don’t have hockey ( i know they are more, but I’m trying to keep it simple.)

    1) building is way to big for low level minor league. Because of the size, the rent is higher, the upkeep costs more, and you need more gameday staff than a smaller building. your average attendance could e the same as everyone else, but because of the reasons stated above, uou ain’t making any money.

    2) The ECHL wants a silly money to get an expansion team.

  10. There’s not a better kid out there than Tyler Roberts. He went to FCD and he was a good basketball player (he’s 6’8″) and an even better pitcher in baseball. After he got there he re-classed for baseball. However he found this year he had some very good opportunities in football. He’s a good student and a great kid. Comes from a good family. I think his Dad played football at Iowa. He got a good opportunity and he has worked hard for the last few years. He got what he deserved. Our family is happy for the Tyler.

  11. To SG Supporter,
Not trying to point fingers at all but if you read the post, you’ll see that I mentioned the kids were honor roll students at their previous school. You can’t fix a problem if you don’t know that one exists. But, I’ll tell you the straw that broke the camel’s back as far as switching to Christian school…I went over to pick up my girls early one day & I saw a line of at least 100 kids standing at the school office. When I asked what was going on, they told me that this was the line for kids getting med’s at school & proceeded to roll out a hospital tray cart full of prescription medicines & they told me the lines were like that at every lunch period. If you want to talk about private schools being a business, don’t think prescription med’s & public high school sports aren’t businesses either……..
