Wake Forest guard J.T. Terrell(Burlington, N.C.) breaks thumb in practice

from www.thetimesnews.com:

WINSTON-SALEM — J.T. Terrell, a freshman from Burlington on the Wake Forest men’s basketball team, suffered a broken thumb last week and it could jeopardize his availability for the start of the season.

The thumb on his right hand — his shooting hand — was fractured when a teammate stepped on him during a workout.

“We’re going to turn this so-called negative into a positive,” first-year coach Jeff Bzdelik said Tuesday, pointing out that the guard will have an opportunity to become stronger with his left hand while his right hand mends.

Terrell could be out for up to a month, though Bzdelik said it’s likely he could be recovered in time for the Nov. 12 regular-season opener against visiting Stetson. Terrell will wear a cast for about another three weeks.

During a sanctioned team practice Sept. 27, Terrell fell to the court while taking a charge, Bzdelik said. When Terrell was about to get up, freshman Melvin Tabb, a 6-foot-8, 250-pound player out of Raleigh Enloe, inadvertently stepped on Terrell’s hand.

  1. Nevermind, I forgot he came from Cummings. If I remember right there was a lot of hootin’ and hollerin’ going on when he made the move from Cummings to West Charlotte.

  2. You got that right. His team at West Charlotte, knocked Dudley out of the West 4-A Regionals, in round one, at the Greensboro Coliseum last year and Dudley beat his Burlington Cummings Cavaliers, at Dudley the year before…

  3. I am suprised Wake still wanting him after the way he acted during regionals this past year. Refusing not only to shake hands with the other team, he refused to shake the hand of the presenter for his award, stood off to side during picture for all tournament team, and was totally a sore loser.

I had much respect for him until that point. Hopefully Wake will work on his character….
