Greensboro tops Guilford in volleyball five-setter

Greensboro, N.C. — Sha McDuffie (Winston-Salem, NC/Parkland) had 24 kills and 17 digs as Greensboro College won at Guilford College 3-2 (25-27, 25-18, 25-18, 24-26, 15-12) on Thursday night. Emily Thompson (Mebane, NC/Cedar Ridge) subbed in and served an ace for the match-winning point.

The Pride improved to 18-5 and Quakers fell to 9-9.

Danielle Simpson (Mayodan, NC/McMichael) had 21 digs and fellow freshman Dana Sandknop (Summerfield, NC/Northwest Guilford) dished 61 assists. Brittany Hunsucker (Jamestown, NC/Ragsdale) added 22 and Karen Riffanacht (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) 20 kills for the visitors. McDuffie hit a match-best 300 on the night.

For Guilford, Brittany Freeman had 19 kills.

Greeensboro swept the season’s two matches vs. Guilford this year. The Pride’s wins last month was Coach Jean Lojko’s 600th career victory.

The Pride will host Methodist next Tuesday night. It will also be Dig Pink night for breast cancer awareness.
