Guilford soccer men claim road win, EMU falls to Quakers in Harrisonburg, VA

HARRISONBURG, Va.- Ronnie Castellanos scored in the 83rd minute to lift
visiting Guilford College to a 2-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)
soccer victory at Eastern Mennonite University Saturday. Kereith Pinnock
assisted on Castellanos’ game-winning goal.

The road victory improves Guilford’s overall record to 7-3-3 (3-1-1 ODAC)
and gives the Quakers a 7-1-3 mark in their last 11 games. The Royals fall
to 3-11-1 (1-5-1 ODAC) with their fourth loss in five matches.

Defenseman Drew Gunter gave the Quakers a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute with
an unassisted goal off a free kick, his first tally as a Quaker. Eastern
Mennonite’s Bryce Shank tied the game just over seven minutes later.

Guilford freshman Marko Mandalinic made five saves for his first college
victory. Ryan Baker had nine stops in goal for the Royals, who held a 20-19
advantage in shots. Guilford had six of the game’s 10 corner kicks.

The Quakers return home Wednesday (10/13) to host Hampden-Sydney College at
7:00 p.m.
