Wild weekend with LSU, Brooks Conrad, Carolina Panthers, Pack/Heels in the hunt and Keenan at Cal…

That LSU football game with the Florida Gators, was another in the long line of wild Bengal Tiger ball games, for Coach Les Miles and his kids from Cajun Country:
from www.espn.com:
With 35 seconds remaining, LSU (6-0, 4-0 Southeastern Conference) lined up for a game-tying, 52-yard field goal, but holder Derek Helton threw a no-look pitch over his head to placekicker Josh Jasper. The ball bounced, Jasper scooped it up on a hop and ran for the first down.

The play was reviewed to determine if it was a forward pass, which would have been incomplete and ended LSU’s hopes, but the ruling on the field stood.

“It wasn’t the greatest of pitches, but I was able to make a play on it and pick up the first down,” Jasper said.

LSU QB, Jarrett Lee, hit WR Terrence Toliver for a 28-yard gain on the next play to get down to the 3 and on the second fade to the corner, Toliver grabbed the game-winner.

I was listening to the Atlanta Braves, on the radio Sunday afternoon and on into the evening and I couldn’t believe the nice comeback by the Braves…..Down 1-0 most of the way, they got the two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning and then we go to the top of the ninth and I get to see this part on TV and I’m watching something like Bill Buckner times three…..

Also from www.espn.com:
Atlanta Braves’ 2B Brooks Conrad made three errors, the last of them on a two-out grounder in the ninth inning that gave the San Francisco Giants a 3-2 victory over Atlanta.

“It was completely embarrassing,” said Conrad, who has made eight errors in the last seven games going back to the regular season. “Once again, I feel like I let everyone down.”

He bobbled a grounder in the first, but that one didn’t hurt. He dropped a popup the next inning, allowing an unearned run to score. Finally, Buster Posey’s hard grounder skidded under Conrad’s glove, bringing home the run that capped San Francisco’s two-run ninth.

“I wish I could just dig a hole,” he said, “and sleep in it.”….Quote from Conrad…..

The Carolina Panthers get 61 yards passing from Jimmy Clausen, their rookie quarterback, out of Notre Dame and go on to lose again, this time to the Chicago Bears, whose starting QB Todd Collins, threw for 4 interceptions….What’s the Panthers’ record now, (0-5)? I’ve lost count….This used to be a contending team, when you had Jake throwing to Steve Smith and DeAngelo Williams, along with Jonathan Stewart running wild back there….This team is toast and we’re barely one month into the season….Won’t drop one next Sunday though….Bye boys coming to town for the OPEN WEEK….

The Wolfpack and Tar Heels appear to be in the hunt and in the chase for the ACC Football Championship…..State at (5-1) and UNC at (3-2) and the teams coming off of big wins Saturday, over Boston College and Clemson….State may have a chance to play for the ACC Title and they could get another shot, at Virginia Tech and the Tar Heels are playing inspired football, since they lost nearly half their team, at the start of the season and they have bounced back and seem to be playing a better brand of ball without Austin, Little, Quinn and company….N.C State at ECU this week and North Carolina at UVA….The Heels still might have a shot at 8 or 9 wins this season and we might see the Pack, playing in Charlotte in December….

Keenan Allen(Northern Guilford HS) watch at Cal back on Saturday, shows Allen with 2 carries for 10 yards and 3 pass receptions for 19 yards and a touchdown, in the Cal Bears 35-7 win over UCLA…..This week it will be Cal vs. USC…..
