HAMPTON, Va. – Hampton University seniors Brandon Peguese and Aaryn Harrison were named HU Athletes of the Week on Monday, due to their outstanding performances on the football field and volleyball court this past weekend.
Peguese (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley High School) was third on the team with nine tackles in a 10-7 loss at South Carolina State on Saturday, including five solo stops. Peguese also had Hampton’s lone sack and two tackles for a loss of 21 yards. Nine total tackles for Peguese and also one quarterback hurry….
He leads the MEAC with 7.0 sacks so far this season, averaging one per game, while sitting second in the conference in tackles for loss with 13.0 for a combined loss of 69 yards.
Other notable numbers from last week….Tory Warren(Dudley HS) had 4 receptions for a total of 100 yards last week for N.C. A&T in the Aggies win over Howard…Ricky Lewis also from Dudley, was 2-2 passing for 14 yards and he had one carry for 8 yards for the Aggies and defensive lineman Chris Neal, another former Dudley Panther, assisted on three tackles for N.C. A&T…
Brandon Wiggins(Smith HS) had a big day on defense for Elon in the Phoenix’ loss to Wofford, with 4 solo tackles and 8 assists for 12 total tackles and Wiggins had 1 tackle for a loss and one sack to boot….
QB Scott Riddle(Eastern Randolph HS) was 28-40 for 232 yards and 3 TD’s for Elon in the 28-21 loss to Wofford and Riddle threw one interception…..
Kasey Redfern(Ragsdale HS) punted twice for Wofford for an 27-yard average……
In East Carolina’s win over Marshall, Dustin Lineback(Southeast Guilford HS) had another huge week, as the Pirates’s top LB on defense, with 3 solo tackles and 9 assists for 12 total tackles and he also had 1 pass breakup and 1 pass hurry….Teammate Derek Blacknall(Dudley HS) had 2 tackles and 3 assists for 5 total tackles and Derek had 1 interception and 2 pass breakups in the ECU win….
Jamaral Rease(Grimsley HS) had 2 solo tackles for UNC Pembroke in the Braves loss to Winston-Salem State Univeristy and his teammate Josh Ples(Western Guilford HS) had 1 tackle and 1 assist….
The big man on the West Coast, Keenan Allen(Northern Guilford HS), had 6 receptions for 40 yards and one touchdown in the Cal Bears 50-17 win over the Arizona State Sun Devils…..
