Coach said, “Sock her”, and she did as Randolph leads Greensboro College women’s soccer over Shenandoah

Soccer is a tough sport and sometimes you have to “Sock her”, just to get a leg up on your opponent…..That’s what the Greensboro College women’s soccer team did today, as they won their quarterfinal game in the USA South Soccer Tournament…..Mary Randolph led the Pride over Shenandoah in GC’s tournament opener….Some players found themselves asking, “did coach say Sock her or Shock her?”….Either way Greensboro College was to get the 1-nil victory…..

Greensboro, N.C. — Freshman Mary Randolph (Bowie, MD/Bowie) scored the match’s only goal as Greensboro College defeated Shenandoah, 1-0, in a USA South quarterfinal match on Tuesday.

GC improved to 12-5-1, and the visiting Hornets ended their season at 11-7-3.

Meredith Kelly (Snow Camp, NC/Southern Alamance) made nice pass to find Randolph on the left side and earned the assist in the 66th minute. The tally was Randolph’s fourth of the year.

After falling behind, Shenandoah inserted their standout goalkeeper at striker. Yet Katie Allegro (Statesville, NC/West Iredell ) garnered her ninth shutout of the season. GC out-shot SU 11-7. Allegro had 4 saves and Terza 3 in the first 77:48.

The score was 0-0 at the break.

The Pride advances to a Friday 5 p.m. semifinal match in Martinsville, Va.
