Guilford picked seventh in ODAC women’s basketball

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College was picked seventh in the 2010 Old
Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Preseason Women’s Basketball Poll.
League officials released the rankings at Thursday’s annual media day at the
Salem (Va.) Civic Center. Guilford received 64 points in the 11-team poll.

Defending league champion Washington and Lee University sits atop the
preseason poll and received six first-place votes. Two other schools earned
first-place votes, Roanoke College (4) and Randolph-Macon College (1), who
are ranked second and third, respectively.

The Quakers lost nine letterwinners from a year ago, including four
starters, and will look to a fairly young roster to improve on last season’s
14-12 record (11-9 ODAC). Junior guard *Jazlyn Gibbs (**Greensboro,
N.C./Southeast
Guilford (USC-Aiken)) *and senior guard *Lauren LeFevers (**Claremont,
N.C./Bunker Hill) *lead coach *Stephanie Flamini’s *Quakers. *Gibbs* led the
team in scoring last year with 12.4 points per game. *LeFevers* returns as
the lone senior and captain of this year’s squad. She is also the team’s
leading three-point shooter. The Quakers will expect contribution from a
host of freshmen in the frontcourt, five of whom are 5-11 or taller.

The Quakers open their 38th basketball season Nov. 15 against
crosstown-rival Greensboro College in the Greensboro Coliseum at 6 p.m.
Guilford opens ODAC play against preseason-favorite Washington and Lee Nov.
23. The annual Pink Zone Game will take place on Feb. 5 when the Quakers
host league-rival Virginia Wesleyan College.
