  1. Hey Andy, I have not been able to do much research on Richmond Co., How are they this year? Usually they field a good team. I think the Pirates may be a little fast for them. What can you tell us? Thanks ?

  2. OOOOOPPS my mistake, I was thinking Page was playing Richmond. Still, what can you tell us? Do you think NW will be okay? Some people tell me that the Wing-T is a hard offense to stop. Takes a lot of discipline. NW may do okay. They have to be patient.

  3. Richmond County is (11-1) with only loss to Matthews Butler 21-7….The RC Raiders defeated Scotland County 31-21 and last week NWG topped Scotland County 23-22….

Tradition is what carries Richmond County and something like that is probably worth a couple of TD’s on the board going in at home….

NWG’s running game with Reid Baxter and Dalton Dillon is the key to the game, and it is a hard-working running game…Last week versus Scotland County Dillon 106 yards on 20 carries and Baxter something like 100 yards on 16 carries…Mix in some timely Matt Pawlowski passes and you have a game plan….

The biggest part of the NWG game plan is that running game integrated with a running clock…Against High Point Central, NWG kept the ball for 10 minutes and 34 seconds of the 12 minute 4th quarter and if you can do that you have a very good chance no matter where the game is being played….If you are going to keep the ball and control it like that, then you can’t turn the ball over…..

Just some things to look at and again, the Tradition at Richmond County with all the State Titles under Coach Daryl Barnes carries a lot of clout….That tradition is hard to build and Barnes started building his in Guilford County at Southern Guilford and at Northeast Guilford before he took off to Richmond County….

NWG has shot to win, but they must keep the clock and the ball away from the Richmond County Raiders, only team to that this year has been Butler……

  4. NWG has a shot. You cannot overlook them. If you let NWG control the tempo and time of possession then they will beat you. You have to stop their running game. NWG is more athletic than they have been in the past and they have the best QB they have had in a long time.

  5. I hope all the Guilford County teams do well tonight. I am glad to see that you have picked Northern to beat Grays Creek. There has not been much said about the Nighthawks this week. Hopefully the 2 .5 hour bus ride down to their game today won’t have a negative impact on their performance on the field. I will be anxiously awaiting the scoring updates on this website later this evening.

    Go Nighthawks!

  6. As a former Richmond Raider I can shed light on the raider program.
In Richmond County football is a way of life, the people in the county live, eat and breathe Raider football. t
The county consolidated 4 high schools into one back in 1973 and have only had 1 losing season since that time, there has been 8 or 9 state championships and 500 wins since, in RC a 14-1 season is not a good season.
As far as this years team they are average compared to recent teams, on offenes they are lead by Rb Walter Ellerbe Jr. ( His father is a RC legend who led three of Darryl barnes’ state championship teams). They can pass but would prefer to runthe option and control the clock. on defense this years team has a bend but dont break attitude. led by a trio of linebackers.
Two weeks ago in the final regular season game Scotland led richmond 21-0 at the half. But lost 31-21. I have watched NWG three times this year and I assure you they can and will score. The question is will NWG defense be able to stop Richmond.
One thing That Nwg or Richmond will have no control of is A thing called “Raider Magic.” ask schools like West forsyth or Jack Britt about “Raider Magic”
Good luck to both teams tonight.
