MEBANE — It was the Alexander Dawson show last Friday night at Eastern Alamance.

Dawson did it all for the Eagles as Eastern Alamance defeated visiting Mt. Pleasant 31-13 in the second round of the Class 3-A state playoffs.

Eastern Alamance (11-2) will play in the third round Friday at Northeast Guilford, which defeated South Johnson 42-35.

“At this point in time there’s eight schools left and we’re glad to be one of them,” Eastern Alamance coach John Kirby said.

Dawson was a factor in all three phases of the game, making big plays as a receiver, safety and punt returner.

He had three catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns, and also returned a punt to the Tigers’ 3-yard line to set up another score. On defense, Dawson accounted for a strip and a devastating hit on Mt. Pleasant receiver Jake Heintz that left him on the ground and sent oohs through the crowd.

“He had a banner night on both offense and defense,” Kirby said. “He’s a big part of our team and playmakers make plays. He’s not only a great football player but he’s a great kid too.”
