Greensborosports.com/FedEx Player of the Week and HS Check List

Last week’s winner was wide receiver/man in motion on the end-around plays, Justin Briley, from Ragsdale HS…..Here is the list of all our winners so far this season….This week we are looking at Merritt Blanks, from High Point Central, who took a fumbled lateral/backward pass, all the way back for a touchdown and this gave the HP Central Bison the win over the Ragsdale Tigers, in Jamestown last Friday night….Without the fumble return by Blanks, there’s a very good chance/possibility, that High Point Central would not be playing in Round Three of the NCHSAA 4-A playoffs, this Friday night in Mocksville, versus the Davie County War Eagles…..Blanks was also credited with several key tackles in the contest, including a blind side sack on Tiger QB Luke Heavner, at a key stage in the ball game….Big night by Blanks and big win on the road for High Point Central….

Previous weekly winners:
Daniel Downing(Northern Guilford)
Matt Pawlowski(Northwest Guilford)
Mike Fields(Southeast Guilford)
Elijah Jordan(Smith)
Drew Adams(High Point Central)
James Summers(Page)
Jamie Cunningham(Southern Guilford)
Jeff Sims(Smith)
Mycah Gaylord(Dudley)
Duke McCoy(Smith)
Reid Baxter(Northwest Guilford)
Orlando Hatfield(Page)
Justin Briley(Ragsdale)
Merritt Blanks(High Point Central)

Also with us on the Check List this week has to be Drew Adams, the quarterback from High Point Central, who had 264 yards passing and a touchdown run, last Friday night….Adams now has right at 3,500 yards passing for the season and right at 1,000 yards rushing for the Bison and that adds up to some pretty stiff numbers, when you take a look at what is happening all across the state of North Carolina……4,500 yards of total offense????? That’s impressive!!!!!(More like that’s unreal or that’s a career in one year.)

More names for the Check List would be QB Kyle Martin from Northeast Guilford, along with fellow-Rams, Caleb McCann and Johnny King….All three of the guys had two TD’s each and Martin put up 132 yards rushing, to go with his two ground touchdowns and he also threw a 50-yard pass for a TD….McCann ran for over a 100 yards and on defense, Ivan Odom, the Rams key DB, had two big interceptions, in the NEG win over South Johnston…..

Daniel Downing, from Northern Guilford, has been on this list nearly every week of this season and this time around is no exception, with his four touchdowns last Friday night, at Gray’s Creek…..Downing also had a game-changing interception late in the contest, to help seal the victory…..Of the four Downing TD’s, all four were on the ground, with runs of 9, 1, 30 and 1 yards…..Northern RB TJ Logan ran for 107 yards, on 16 carries, to help set uo those Downing touchdowns and the Nighthawk offensive line up front, did their job to near-perfection…..

That’s a look at this week’s list and it is much smaller than usual, since we now only have three teams left in the playoffs, in High Point Central, Northern Guilford and Northeast Guilford……..

PLAYER OF THE YEAR ~ Drew Adams, QB-HPC

Show me another player in Guilford County who stats are as good or better than Drew’s and then tell me if their team is still playing or not?
