Guilford’s Jazz Gibbs(Southeast Guilford HS) earns Student-Athlete honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College junior *Jazlyn Gibbs (Greensboro,
N.C./Southeast Guilford (South Carolina-Aiken))* earned the school’s
Student-Athlete of the Week Award Monday. The weekly prize is presented by
Guilford’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

*Gibbs*, a 5-9 junior guard, averaged 22.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5
steals per game in the Quakers’ 2-0 week. She notched her first college
double-double with a season-high 23 points and a personal-best 11 rebounds
in the Quakers’ Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over Emory &
Henry College Nov. 28. *Gibbs* shot three-of-four from beyond the arc on the
way to a game-high 21 points in Guilford’s 700-63 win over Methodist
University Dec. 3. She added six rebounds and three steals in the Quakers’
fourth win in five outings.

*Gibbs* ranks third among ODAC scoring leaders with a team-high 17.7 points
per game average. She also averages 3.7 rebounds per game and has 12 assists
on the year. Her 32.2 minutes per game stands sixth in the league.
*Gibbs*has led Guilford’s scorers four times this season and has three
20-point games.

Coach *Stephanie Flamini’s* team is 4-2 (1-1 ODAC) headed into Tuesday’s
(12/7) league game at Roanoke College. The Quakers close out the
fall-semester portion of their schedule Thursday (12/9) against visiting
Averett University at 7:00 p.m.

The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which
is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams.
The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and
seeks to build community among Guilford’s student-athletes and
non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a cancer
awareness promotions, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the
North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
