Guilford men can’t find the bacon(basket), end up takin’ a Quakin’ from Randolph-Macon

With just 48 points, lowest scoring output since November of 2008…..

ASHLAND, Va. – Eric Pugh scored 22 points in Randolph-Macon College’s 67-48
Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over visiting
Guilford College Saturday. Pugh made seven of the Yellow Jackets’ 17
three-pointers, which helped the Yellow Jackets improve to 7-2 on the year
(3-1 ODAC).

Randolph-Macon, a defending NCAA Division III semifinalist like Guilford, is
ranked 12th in this week’s D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll. The Quakers (5-4, 1-2
ODAC) suffered their first consecutive losses since Feb. 2006 and scored
their fewest points since a 64-48 setback at the University of Texas-Dallas
Nov. 22, 2008.

Guilford made its first five shots and enjoyed an early six-point lead
before Pugh led Randolph-Macon’s outside shooting display. He made
five-of-nine first-half three-pointers and had 16 points at the break. The
Yellow Jackets shot 10-of-19 from beyond the arc in the opening period.
While Randolph-Macon rained in threes, Guilford struggled through a nearly
nine-minute stretch without a field goal, during which time the Yellow
Jackets built a 38-27 halftime lead.

The hosts outside shooting display continued in the second half as Calvin
Croskey knocked down two of his four three-pointers during a 14-4
Randolph-Macon run after halftime. Five different Yellow Jackets hit triples
in the second half and the team shot seven-for-12 from three-point land in
the frame. For the game, Randolph-Macon shot 54.8 percent (17-31) from
beyond the arc and 35 percent (7-20) from the rest of the floor.

Croskey finished with 12 points and Adam Desgain added nine off the bench on
three-for-six three-point shooting. He also shared game-high rebounding
honors with five.

Guilford’s inside tandem of Tobi Akinsola and Justin Stafford scored 12
points apiece and combined to shoot 12-of-21 from the floor. The rest of the
team managed just seven-of-30 shooting (23.3%). Akinsola had five rebounds.

After a week for final exams, the Quakers return to action at Maryville
(Tenn.) College Dec. 18.
