Southwest Guilford 100
Ragsdale 87

Ragsdale 21 16 20 30 – 87
SWG 14 30 25 31 – 100

Ragsdale got off to a fast start tonight, taking a 21 – 14 lead after the
first quarter and then extending that lead to 30 – 15 with 5:25 left in the
second quarter. From that point on it was all Southwest as they outscored
the Tigers 29 – 7 for the rest of the second to take a 44 – 37 lead into the
halftime break. Terrell Leach spurred the run as he scored 16 second
quarter points, including a three pointer with three seconds left. The
Cowboys ignited the run with their defense, forcing the Tigers into
turnovers and turning them into layups.

The Cowboys stretched the lead to 69 – 57 after three quarters, at one point
leading by 16. In the fourth, Ragsdale got to within 7 points at 86 – 79
with 2:43 left, but the Cowboys hit 9 of 11 foul shots down the stretch to
extend the lead back up to 14 at 97 – 83. After Ragsdale got two baskets,
Leach hit a three pointer with 3.1 seconds left to put Southwest at the
century mark to make the final score 100 – 87.

Southwest was led by sophomore Terrell Leach with 32 points. Leach did most
of his damage in the second and fourth quarters as he scored 16 in the
second and 15 in the fourth. He had 4 three pointers and was 8 of 10 from
the foul line. Junior Jordan Hanner was terrific playing the point guard,
penetrating into the paint and running the offense. He scored 29 points.
Deandre Brown was also in double figures with 11 points.

Ragsdale was led by Tyquan Roberts who had a double – double with 24 points
and 13 rebounds. Benaiah Wise had 23 points and Jaxon Randolph scored 13.
Sharwyn McGee scored 8 and had 10 rebounds.

Southwest improves to 8 – 4 and 1 – 0 in the Piedmont Triad, while Ragsdale
falls to 6 – 7 and 1 -1 in the Piedmont Triad Conference.

I am glad Coach Shavers is out with the old and in with the new. He is finally realizing who can help him win and playing them.

  • hello said,

Is SW in EG’s conference because EG beat them earlier this season and this article says they are 1-0 in the Piedmont Triad. whats that?

  • Andy said,

Different conferences and different classifications with SWG 4-A and Eastern 3-A….

For SWG, it was their first conference game tonight….

  • TOO BAD said,

@ lynnd, Coach Shavers is finally getting some “basketball” players. This is a very aggressive team with solid players. If you play them be prepared to play hard 32 minutes! This will be the team the area will be talking about in February. Great job coach, I can appreciate what you have done at SW and know how difficult it is to build a program there. Hats off to the kids as well and the students who support them.
