Guilford’s Josh Pittman(Trinity HS) named ODAC Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s Josh Pittman (Archdale,
N.C./Trinity) collected the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s (ODAC) Men’s
Basketball Player of the Week Award Monday. Pittman also earned Guilford’s
Student-Athlete of the Week Award, presented by the school’s Student-Athlete
Advisory Committee (SAAC).

The Quakers’ first winner of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honor,
Pittman averaged 20.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 assists in
Guilford’s 3-0 week. The 6-0, 160-pound sophomore guard scored in
double-digits in all three contests, which gives him a team-high 12 games
with 10 or more points this year. He led all scorers with 21 points and
dished out three assists in the Quakers’ 61-57 over the 12th-ranked College
of St. Mary’s (Md.) Jan. 3. Pittman scored 13 of his points in the second
half, which helped Guilford overcome a nine-point halftime deficit. He
totaled 23 points, six rebounds and three steals, all game highs, in the
Quakers’ ODAC win over Emory & Henry College Jan. 5 and scored 17 points in
a Jan. 8 league win over Lynchburg College.

Pittman leads Guilford in scoring (17.6 ppg.), free-throw percentage (.845)
and three-pointers per game (3.0). He leads the ODAC in three-pointers and
ranks third in the league in scoring and free-throw percentage. Pittman has
five 20-point games on the year, including a pair of 34-point efforts.

Coach Tom Palombo’s Quakers (9-5, 3-2 ODAC) put their season-best four-game
winning streak on the line Wednesday night when they host league-rival
Bridgewater College at 7:00 p.m. Guilford visits Eastern Mennonite
University Saturday in a 2:00 p.m. ODAC game. It is the first meeting with
the Royals since last year’s Quakers’ home win in a 2010 NCAA Division III
Tournament quarterfinal.

The Student-Athlete of the Week Award is presented by Guilford’s SAAC, which
is comprised of representatives from each of the school’s 20 varsity teams.
The group meets regularly to discuss the state of Guilford Athletics and
seeks to build community among Guilford’s student-athletes and
non-student-athletes. Recent Guilford SAAC activities include a cancer
awareness promotions, canned-food drives, volunteer assistance with the
North Carolina Special Olympics and tutoring at New Garden Friends School.
