New football coach at Southern Alamance is Henry Trevathan Jr.

Henry Trevathan Jr., who has ties to high school and college programs in Alamance County, has been hired as the next football coach at Southern Alamance.

Trevethan is leaving Cardinal Gibbons after one season to take charge of the Southern Alamance team, which is coming off a 4-7 season in Daniel Barrow’s fourth and final season as coach.

“I hope I can come in there and complement their strengths,” Trevathan said Saturday night, referring to what he called a good structure at the school. “We’ve got to figure out a way to win consistently in (Class) 4-A.”

Trevathan, a 53-year-old Burlington man, is a former offensive coordinator on the college level at Elon under Al Seagraves. Since then, he was on the football staffs for one year at Southern Alamance (2004) and Western Alamance (2005). He coached Cardinal Gibbons, which is located in Raleigh, to an 11-3 record and into the third round of the Class 3-AA state playoffs.(Our link below is now working and you can read all about Coach Trevethan.)

  1. His dad was a great special teams coach at NCSU. Coached kicker Mike Cofer who went to the 49ers. I think kicking/snapping coach Don Osborne down in Thomasville worked with him also.
