Eastern Guilford girls nip Eastern Alamance 42-41

Eastern Guilford young Wildcats went on the road in Conference play and nip
Eastern Alamance 42-41 in a close game from start to finish. Both teams were
tied 9-9 after the first period before Eastern gain a 6 point lead 26-20 behind
Miranda Jenkins 14 points and junior Karima Jackson’s 8 points. Eastern’s
Jenkins was in early foul trouble with four and had to sit most of the third and
and fourth before re-entering the game and the momentum on Eastern Alamance
side. Eastern had built a 38-30 lead before Eastern Alamance took the lead in
the wanning minutes. The cerebral, intense focus leader of the Wildcats rallied
her young team and they kept their composure as Freshmen Carryl Alston came up big with super defense and timely rebounds. Sophomore Whitney Parks hit a major three pointer during the third period to help keep Eastern Alamance at bay.
Jenkins entered the fourth period with about three minutes left and quickly
blocked a shot and rebounded it. She drove through three would be defenders and scored to tie the game at 40-40. Eastern Alamance converted a free throw to lead 41-40. Jenkins stole and errant pass and was fouled and converted to tie it
41-41. Eastern Alamance took a shot with 21 seconds left but did not convert and
Jenkins grabbed the rebound and was foul but only converted on 1 of the
free-throws which turned out to be the game winner. Eastern Alamance had one
last chance to win but Sophomore Erica Olerich grabbed the rebound and threw it
upcourt to Jenkins who let the time expire. Jenkins led Eastern with 22 points
on 10 of 15 from the field and Junior Karima Jackson notched 10 points including
2 of 4 from three point range. Terri Rogers led Eastern Alamance with 11 points.
