Hey, you know you are going up against some pretty tough odds when you have to go on the road, you’re facing a team that has only lost one conference game and that team is being coached by former Elon University and Burlington Williams Bulldogs-great, Tommy Cole….Cole was one of the all-time best players from the old Carolinas Conference with Elon, Guilford, High Point, Catawba, Lenior Rhyne, Presbyterian, Atlantic Christian, Pfeiffer and others……Cole was a legend and still is, in the Carolinas……

Here’s the notes on last night’s game from the Burlington Times-News…..

Both sides agreed that the final minute of Wednesday night’s Mid-State 3-A Conference showdown between visiting Eastern Guilford and Williams High School was the kind of pressure-packed experience that can pay dividends in the long run.

For Williams, the 43-39 victory helped burnish its credentials as a league power. For Eastern Guilford, which suffered its first league loss, it was a bitter teachable moment.

“We have to play these kinds of games,” Eastern Guilford coach Tina Gunn said. “You’ve got to play these kinds of games to learn how to play these kinds of games. Williams has had a few more close games than we have and won them. That makes a huge difference.”
