HS hoops tonight with key games and some different looks…

This has been a wild week already with games of all sorts going on from college, to high school, to middle school and tonight the focus will again be on the high schools…..We have the Wesleyan Christian Academy(High Point Wesleyan) at Greensboro Day School game for you on the radio and on-line at it gets going at 7:30 in the Dillard Athletic Center, on Lawndale Drive……Radio on AM950 and on-line at www.wpetam950.com.

Should be a good chance to get another look at the HPW Trojan guards, in Montay Brandon and Jaquel Richmond…..They both had strong games against High Point Christian a couple of weeks back…..Reed Lucas, John Terry and Jalen Ross, GDS guards, all had big games at High Point Christian on Tuesday night of this week….We’ll also get to see how Deng Leek fares inside against the GDS Big Three of Roberts, Robertson and Williams…..Wesleyan was very impressive up at the Christ School two weeks ago tonight….

Also speaking more about High Point Christian, they might be licking their chops, knowing they will face Oak Ridge for the third time this season tonight, and the ORMA Cadets will be without guard Chris Jones, who was dimissed from the team yesterday….Jones was a Top-ten guard recruit and it will be interesting to see if Mitch Oates can get the HPCA offense moving more effectively, now that Jones is gone from the ORMA lineup….Second big blow to the Cadet charges, having lost forward/center and Purdue commit, Jacob Lawon, to injury earlier…..Michael Neal and Asad Lamont will now have to carry the load for ORMA at guard and Mitch Oates and Jordan Weethe will get one more crack at Oak Ridge tonight and the game is at HPCA, so crazy Cougar fans will be out in full support….ORMA did defeat Upper Room and Rodney Purvis without Jones and Lawson back on Tuesday…..

That from our sports news section and now for the games this evening:

Page at Smith…Rematch from last week and Page took both games at Page….Page over Smith without Eaves last week and Kea is now back for Lady Pirates…
Southeast Guilford at Dudley….One of the biggest girls games in the state tonight. SEG one of the few teams to beat Dudley girls last season….
Northwest Guilford at High Point Central…Central boys beat NWG last time out by one point and NWG won the girls matchup….Both should be tight tonight….
Southwest Guilford at Ragsdale…Both SWG teams have been on a roll. Can Ragsdale slow them down?
Northeast Guilford at Southwestern Randolph…All eyes on the NEG boys team, as they are a true team to watch as the playoffs draw nigh….
Southern Guilford at Ledford…SG girls over Ledford 55-53 back on Tuesday and can the Storm knock off the Panthers twice in one week and take over the conference race?
Eastern Guilford at Rockingham County…EG must come back down to earth quickly after two emotion-filled games, with Northern last night in “Wildcat Country”….I’m still trying to come back down myself…
McMichael at Northern Guilford…Nighthawks back home and looking to keep sights set on finishing at the top, or right at the top of the conference standings….
Western Guilford at Southern Alamance…Hornet boys and girls both could come back home with wins tonight….
WS Atkins at High Point Andrews…HPA boys have been rolling and does anyone know anything about the Atkins Camels???
Wesleyan Christian Academy(HPW) at Greensboro Day School…See above…
Oak Ridge at High Point Christian…Look above….
Carolina Friends at Westchester Country Day…Looking for info on this one….Thinking WCD in a wash……
Elon School at Caldwell Academy….Three games in one week for Caldwell Eagles and Brett Manning has 54 points in two games so far in the week….

  1. Andy – think Northwest Guilford girls won the first matchup against HPC by 46 – 45. NW is 4 – 2 with the only two losses coming to the undefeated SW Guilford girls. Big game for second place in Piedmont Triad with both teams 4 – 2. Central has lost to Southwest and Northwest in conference play. They did defeat Southwest earlier in a holiday tournament.

  2. That’s right Mike. It was flipflopped from what we expected going in…..HPC boys by 1 and the NWG girls by 1….You are right…

  3. The score really dont tell the story. HPCA got baskets at the end when the starters left the game. When the starters left the game, ORMA was up by 21
