SWG-Ragsdale, the Duke-Carolina of HS hoops goes to the Cowboys 65-60, in Jamestown…

from Greg Vlazny SWG….

The high school equivalent of Duke-Carolina was intense in the Piedmont between
Ragsdale and Southwest Guilford. The hosts jumped out strong early up 7-0 and 12-2.
But the quick firing Cowboys jumped back hard to tie the game at 16 a-piece after the
first. The second quarter was it’s mirror with the visitors jumping ahead but
Ragsdale came back, but this time Southwest held on for a 33-28 point lead at the
half. The high scoring Cowboys had engine trouble as Ragsdale played solid defense
and outscored the cowboys 19-10 to take a 47-43 lead going into the final 8 minutes.
Ragsdale used the momentum to control the first couple minutes but the Cowboys
fought back to tie it up at 50. Ragsdale hit one free-throw and the teams traded bad
shots but then after a scramble Southwest found Jordan Hanner in the corner and hit
a huge 3-pointer to take the lead 53-51. Which turned out to be huge because the
Cowboys never relinquished the lead for the rest of the fight. The Cowboys scored on
back-to-back possessions to go up 57-51. Southwest held on strong as the Tigers
began fouling and the Cowboys showed their grit by hitting enough free-throws to
take home a tough 65-60 win, remaining undefeated in the Piedmont Triad 4A
conference at 6-0. Ragsdale was lead by Eric Carter and Sharwyn McGee with 17
apiece. Southwest was lead by Jordan Hanner and Terrell Leach with 22 and 19
respectively.
