Greensboro College men top Methodist, but Mark Jernigan(Eastern Guilford) ties for game-honors with 17 points

Greensboro, N.C. — Freshman Damian Dixon (Tampa, FL/Wharton) had 17 points as Greensboro College held off Methodist, 73-68, on Friday night. The Pride improved to 9-8 and 3-3 in the USA South. The Monarchs dropped to 7-12, 2-4.

Dixon was 4-8 from the field and converted 8-8 free throws. Adam Powell (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach ) had 15 points and Daren Dexter (Sarasota, FL/Riverview) chipped in with 10 and had a big steal at the game’s end.

Mark Jernigan (tied Dexter with game-best 17 points) made an old-fashioned three-point play to cut the deficit to 71-68 with 27 seconds left. Dexter then missed two free throws but had a steal and a dunk for the game’s final bucket with seven seconds remaining.

The Pride led 39-28 at the break, and had a 12-point lead (its biggest) with 13:00 minutes remaining. The Pride made 27-44 free throws to MU’s 10-19.

GC travels to Averett on Monday night to begin the second half of conference games.
