Roanoke Downs Guilford, 85-77, in Women’s Basketball

*Greensboro, N.C. (1/29/11) — *Rebecca Bays and Nicci Moats each scored 21
points as Roanoke defeated Guilford 85-77 in Old Dominion Athletic
Conference action Saturday afternoon. The duo led a balanced attack as all
five Maroons’ starters scored in double digits.

The Maroons (11-4, 10-1 ODAC) closed an eight-point first half deficit in
the final six minutes of the first half to trail the host Quakers (10-7, 6-6
ODAC) by only a single point at halftime. Guilford increased it’s lead to
four point early in the second half, but Bays hit three of Roanoke’s first
four shots of the half to keep the game close. Jordan Gholson’s pair of free
throws with 13:24 remaining in the second half broke the fifth and final tie
of the game putting the visitors up for good .

Roanoke’s Moats grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds, while teammate Gholson
added 15 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Guilford’s *Jazlyn Gibbs*(Southeast Guilford HS) led all scorers with a game-high 24 points in the
losing effort. *Gabby Oglesby* notched a double-double with 14 points and 11
rebounds to go along with a game-high five blocked shots. Classmates *Logan
Terry* and Kayla Adams* chipped in 10 and 11 points respectively.

The Quakers return home Tuesday (2/1) on the road against ODAC-rival
Randolph College in a 7:00 p.m. game.
