It was a Saturday afternoon matchup in the Piedmont Triad 4A conference matchup
between East Forsyth and the visiting Southwest Guilford Cowboys. Both teams were
less than 24 hours away from emotional wins from the night before. Once again the
home team came out strong and got up 13-3 using a zone defense. The first quarter
ended with the Eagles up 15-8. The second quarter was more of the same, but the
Cowboys decided to show up for spurts and cut the halftime deficit to 27-24. Then
the real Cowboys started showing signs of their run and gun offense and took their
first lead of the game at 38-37 on a 3 pointer by Jordan Hanner. 5 seconds later
Hanner knocked down another huge 3 pointer to extend their lead 41-37. The Eagles
continued to fight however and the third quarter ended with a slight 44-42 slight
edge to the Cowboys. The Cowboys pushed the lead back up to 6 twice and each time
E. Forsyth would fight back to cut it to a 1 point game. The home team began
fouling and Southwest kept hit a few free-throws. But it wasn’t over yet. E.
Forsyth went on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 62-61. The Eagles fouled and sent a
Cowboy to the free-throw line. After missing both freebies, Southwest’s Terrell
Leach came up with a huge game. clinching rebound. He was then fouled and hit both
freebies to push it to 64-61. E. Forsyth pushed the ball to half court and called a
timeout with 4.5 left. On the ensuing inbounds, Cowboy defender Rob Howze got near
steal that used the remainder of the clock, as the undefeated Cowboys held on for
yet another tough road win in the conference. E. Forsyth was lead by Craig Hinton’s
18 points. Terrell Leach and Jordan Hanner Lead the way for the Cowboys with 19 and
18 apiece.
