The second time around works for the Southwest Guilford Cowboys, home on the range/”The Ranch”(Now 11 straight wins for SWG)…..

It was the second time around for these non-conference opponents. This game
initially was set for a month ago but the weather forced it to be pushed back. The
visiting Eastern Guilford Wildcats came into tonight’s game with confidence after
knocking off the Cowboys 78-76 in thier early season matchup. The Cowboys however
have gone 11-1 since that point, including 10 in a row, and looked to keep thier
momentum going. And they sure did. Southwest took the lead 3-0 but then Eastern
came back quickly to tie it back up at 3. A quick 7-0 run pushed the Cowboys up to
10-3. The Wildcats wouldn’t quit and kept it close in the first 17-13 at the end of
the first. The second quarter started with a quick Eastern basket to make it 17-15,
but the hosts were fueled by a raucous student section and got the lead up to 12 at
33-21. But then Southwest’s Terrell Leach picked up his 3rd and 4th fouls with a
foul and a technical foul. The Wildcats hit three of the four free-throws to cut it
to 33-24. The home squad’s bench showed up big and maintained the pressure and took
a 40-30 lead at the half. The second half showed how truly deep the Cowboys are
with 9 of the 11 players scoring, including 38 points from the bench tonight for
the game. The Cowboys used great defense by holding the Wildcats to 11 points in
the 3rd and 10 in the 4th quarters. The Cowboys continued to score and pressure and
cruised to a 86-51 victory. Eastern was lead by Butch Huffman’s 18, while the
Cowboys were lead by Terrell Leach and Lakieth Scott with 22 and 18 points
respectively.

  1. Not taking anything away from Southwest…they are good basktball players…but EG was missing two key players last night and I don’t belive the game would have ended the way it did if they were in the game. Not just talking about win or loss, but the spread in the score.

I will say…Southwest has one of the best student sections I have ever seen. I had more fun watching them than the game.
