Guilford Turns Away Virginia Wesleyan, 68-55

Greensboro, N.C. (2/5/11) –Three different Quakers’ players scored 15
points apiece as Guilford otched it’s fifth win in the past seven games and
turned away Virginia Wesleyan, 68-55, in Old Dominion Athletic Conference
(ODAC) action Saturday afternoon. Gabby Oglesby led the way for Guilford
with 15 points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots. Lauren LeFevers
and Jazlyn
Gibbs also scored 15 for the Quakers.

The first half was tightly contested through the first 18 minutes of the
game. Virginia Wesleyan (10-10, 8-7 ODAC) built an early six-point lead only
to see Guilford (12-8, 8-7 ODAC) storm back to take a five-point lead in the
final minutes of the half. A Quakers’ steal by Brittany Atwater led to a
buzzer beating three-pointer by LeFevers and gave Guilford a 37-29 halftime
lead.

Guilford’s post tandem of *Morgan King* (nine points, five rebounds) and
Oglesby took over in the first six minutes of the second half to build the
Quaker’s lead to 20-points. Virginia Wesleyan’s full-court pressure cut the
lead to 11 points with five minutes to go, but the Marlins would get no
closer.

Kristen Blalock led Virginia Wesleyan with a game-high 21 points and seven
rebounds. She was joined by Kristina Jameson’s nine points and five assists

Guilford returns to action Feb. 11 hosting ODAC-rival Washington and Lee
University at 7:00 p.m. in the Ragan-Brown Field House.
