WS Parkland spoils Senior Night at SWG with emotional 111-103 win over Cowboys…(51 pts. for Parkland’s Miles Bowman Jr.)

Courtesy of Greg Vlazny Southwest Guilford:

It was an emotional night at the Ranch as the Cowboys of Southwest celebrated Senior
Night. Despite it being this late in the season it was the first matchup of the
season between Southwest and Parkland. Just a few days after clinching the regular
season championship, the Cowboys had to host a long and scrappy Parkland Mustangs
team that came into the contest with a 5-4 conference mark. These mustangs came out
to play with a passion that would not be stopped. It was a loud and hot contest that
went back and forth the entire game. The defensive effort that the cowboys had been
known by did not show up. The cowboys came back and took a 16-15 lead after the
first. But the Mustangs fought and took the lead at the half 37-36. The second half
was just the same and going into the fourth. The Cowboys were down 93-90 and with 4
seconds left Terrell Leach hit a 3 pointer in the corner to tie it up to send it
into overtime. In the overtime the two teams started off trading free-throws and
baskets. The lack of defense didn’t change in the extra frame, and the Mustangs got
to the free-throw line and pulled out an extremely emotional win on the road
111-103.

  1. No talk in the write up of the kid who scored 51 points! That is an impressive number for a high school kid.

  2. Miles is a 6’4″ junior that transfered from QEA. He does it all for Parkland. SW could not stay in front of him last night. Long, athletic kid put on a show! SW had opportunities to draw charges, but “punked” out! One of the best unknown players in the triad.

  3. Miles is a very tough match up. Committed to WSSU. Most likely has inside track for POY in Piedmont Triad. Believe he is leading scorer in conference. Probably top 10 in state.

Playing along side last years POY Antonio Robinson. Most explosive scoring combo team in conference along with Hanner and Leach.

Here is article on his commitment.

I agree with #51, don’t think he gets the pub due. Runs the floor very well. Robinson knows how to find him.

  4. To Greg: Appreciate the coverage you have been giving SWG teams. Some game last night. Outcome must have come down to the coaching!!!!!
    (Just kidding 🙂 )

  5. Sounds like this was a great high school game. I remember a short overweight Jordan Hanner at Lincoln MS a few years ago. He always had range but wasn’t in “basketball” shape. But after spending hours at the Y, running the track and treadmill while his peers played or talked and changing his diet, Hanner looks and plays like a completely different person. His hard work and perseverance are paying off. Anyone who saw J when he was in the 7th grade knows what I mean. We are proud of Jordan and all these athletes who work hard to achieve their goals.
