Southwest Guilford at High Point Central

Thanks to a Christmas tournament matchup this was the third time these conference foes met this season. The Cowboys won both clashes previous, and came into the game hoping to avenge last nights heartbreaking overtime loss to Parkland which ended thier hopes to go undefeated in the league. With half of the Cowboys roster and coaching staff struggling with the flu, the hosting jumped out to an early 7-0 lead. Bit by bit the Cowboys chipped away slowly until the first eigh mintues closed tied at 16. The first six minutes of the second quarter had the teams go blow for blow. The Cowboys starting getting some pressure on the Bison and got up 33-29, but the Bison regrouped and went ahead 35-33 with 20 seconds left. Southwest’s LaKeith Scott hit a jumper at the top of the key at the buzzer to end the half tied at 35. The third quarter started exactly as the second frame as each team once again went bucket for bucket. Then the Cowboys once again were able to push the gas down and went up for their largest lead at 55-49. One more defensive stop and the Cowboys had possession for the last 30 seconds. They dribbled the clock down and once again got the ball to LaKeith Scott who hit a 3 pointer right at the buzzer to break the Bison’s back, making it 58-49. The fourth quarter started with the Cowboys using their momentum to push the lead to 17. The Cowboys used the rest of the clock as they held off the scrappy Bison 81-67. High Point Central was lead by Derek Grant’s 25 points. The Cowboys were paced by Terrell Leach, Andrew Bostic, and LaKeith Scott with 20, 16, and 13 points respectively.
