We presented the Greensborosports.com/FedEx 2010 high school football Player of the Year award last night, to Daniel Downing, out at Northern Guilford HS and I wanted to post the presentation notes, so you could get an idea of what was said and let’s hope we can come up with some nice comments for your school’s winner next year/season, unless Double D decides to pull an Archie Griffin on us and it may pay some of you to look up Archie and see what he did back then….It has been a while…..
Here are the notes from last night’s presentation and we should have some video from our man Dennis White later on today….

DANIEL DOWNING IS YOUR 2010 GREENSBOROSPORTS.COM/FED-EX
PLAYER OF THE YEAR, Nighthawk fans…………..
Very deserving. Congrats to the young man as well as the other players who were so close. Just to be considered is an honor.
Well deserved honor to a multi-talented young man! Congrats to Daniel, his teammates, coaches & family! Also, a special shout-out to all the 2010 Players of the Week! Good luck to all these young men in their future endeavors!
Is that the same kid who got the Sportsmanship Award during the Little 4 ?
The award went to a very deserving young man, who always gives his team and football coaches the credit for his outstanding performances. Way to go, Daniel!
I don’t know Daniel personally, but I’ve followed his achievements. I’m very impressed with his athletic skills –
especially his versatility in football. Congratulations to Daniel for this award and to the entire NG family for
their state championship!
To topfin29: no, Daniel did not get the sportsmanship award at the Little 4.
Congratulations not only to Daniel but to all the Player of the Week winners. It was a pool stocked full of talent. It’s been fun to follow many of them as they made all conference, all area, and all state. Guilford County should be proud of our football excellence!!
I’m pretty sure the Sportsmanship winner at the Pizza Hut Tournament was #1 from Northern, Patrick Chandler….
