Methodist nine uses nine pitchers to get past Guilford, 5-2…

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Nine different Methodist University pitchers combined
to hold visiting Guilford College to three hits in a 5-2 nonconference
baseball win Wednesday.

Tripp Lancaster paced the Monarchs’ (2-1) offense with three hits and two
runs scored. He scored one of Methodist’s two first-inning runs that gave
the hosts an early 2-0 edge. Methodist went ahead 3-0 with an unearned run
in the third inning on Shawn Lovette’s steal of home with two outs.
Lovette’s two-out, two-run double in the seventh plated Methodist’s
remaining runs and opened a 5-0 lead.

Kyle Wooden had an RBI double in Guilford’s two-run eighth inning that
provided the game’s final margin. Will James (0-1) worked into the seventh
inning for Guilford and yielded four earned runs and eight hits. He fanned
three and did not walk a batter.

Guilford returns to action Thursday (2/10) when the Quakers host NCAA
Division II member Bluefield State College at 2:30 p.m. on McBane Field.
