Eastern Guilford girls knock off Morehead in Round One of Mid-State 3-A Tournament

Eastern Guilford defeated Morehead High 66-49 in the opening round of the Mid
State Conference Tournament. Eastern got off to a quick start 21-6 largely due
to Sophomore guard Erica Olerich’s back to back three-pointers and finished with
16 points and junior guard Karima Jackson scored 12 points. Senior Courtney
Torraine played very well and scored 6 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Freshmen
Carryl Alston provided 7 tough rebounds along with 2 blocks. Senior guard
Miranda Jenkins contributed 20 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists while she flirted
with a triple-double. Morehead was led by Jasmine Miller and Kali Cuttala with
16 points each. Eastern must now face Conference powerhouse Burlington Williams in the semi-finals on Wednesday at 5:30 at Northern Guilford gymnasium.
