Greensboro College men’s basketball falls at Methodist

Fayetteville, N.C. — Methodist University defeated Greensboro College, 82-68, in a USA South game on Tuesday night. Lewis Owenby (Black Mountain, NC/Owen) and Luqman Tijani (Greensboro, NC/Page ) tallied 15 and 14 points respectively for the visitors.

GC, which lost its fourth straight game, dropped to 11-12, 4-6. The home standing Monarchs improved to 9-14, 4-6.

Owenby was 6-9 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. Tijani was 5-6 from the field, 1-1 from beyond the arc and converted 3-4 free throws. Chakiris Moss (Richmond Hill, GA/Richmond Hill ) scored nine points and dished five assists.

After a Moss lay up with 2:06 left in the first half The Pride led 30-29. MU, however, outscored GC 9-0 the rest of the period and held a 38-30 advantage at the break.

The Monarchs kept the momentum at the beginning of the second half. The Pride was outscored 11-2 to start the final period and the home team never looked back.

Brian Hockaday tallied game-best 19 points for Methodist. The Monarchs had five players score in double figures.

The Pride committed 23 turnovers to MU’s 13. The Monarchs won the battle of the boards, 41-33.

GC travels Shenanodah and CNU this Firday and S aturday. The Monarchs make the same road trip.
