Check out some of the names below for Coach John Barrow’s GTCC Titans, with Kyle Brandenburg(Ragsdale), Adam Kirkpatrick(Southeast Guilford) and Landon O’Dell(East Forsyth HS) just to name a few….Great start by the Titans and don’t forget, the Titans have one of the top community college programs in the nation…..

from this past weekend and “Remember The Titans”…..

The GTCC Titan baseball team opened it’s 2011 season this past weekend by winning 3
of 4 games versus Wake Tech. It was the opening weekend for both teams.

Game 1 on Saturday saw the Titans fend off a pesky Eagle team and win 9-8 in extra
innings. The Titans raced to an early 5-1 lead only to have Wake Tech rally to tie
the score at 5 in 5th inning. GTCC took the lead with a single run in the 6th
inning only to have WTCC tie the score again in the bottom of the 7th. The Titans
went ahead again in the 8th inning by scoring 2 runs and going up 8-6. The lead was
short-lived as the Eagles plated 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the score
again at 8. GTCC finally took the lead for good with a single run in the top of the
9th and held on to win 9-8. Landon O’Dell led the Titans with 3 hits, and Matt
Petrone and Kyle Brandenburg had 2 hits apiece. Peter Marois came in and slammed
the door on Wake Tech in the 9th to pick up the win.

Game 2 on Saturday was not quite as dramatic, as Titan pitcher Clint Ingram shut
down Wake Tech by allowing only 1 run on 3 hits over 5 innings while striking out 6.
Kevin Sanders drove in 3 runs en route to a 6-1 Titan victory.

Game 3 on Sunday saw a late Titan rally ruin the Eagles hopes for victory as GTCC
erased a 1-0 deficit with 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning on their way to a
4-1 win. Trevor Leonard tied the game with an RBI single in the 6th and was then
followed by a 2-run homer by Matt Dillon. Landon O’Dell followed up Dillon’s home
run with a solo home run of his own. Adam Kirkpatrick pitched 3 scoreless innings
of relief to pick up the win for the Titans.

In the series finale, the Titans luck finally ran out as Wake Tech salvaged the last
game by a score of 6-4. GTCC raced to an early 4-0 leadin the 2nd inning, but the
Eagles rallied for 2 runs in the 3rd and 4 runs in the 5th and held off a late Titan
rally to win. Paco Martin had 2 hits for the Titans and Kyle Brandenburg drove in 2
runs as well.

The Titans return to action this weekend as they travel to Southeastern Community
College for a doubleheader on Saturday. The Titans will play a home doubleheader at
Ragsdale High School against the same Southeastern team on Sunday. Game time for
both days is 1:00.

  • question said,

how can gtcc have one of the best programs in the nation? they have only had a team for about 6years. Are you serious, you forgot about louisburg college , pitt community, spartanburg jr college, surry and a host of other jr colleges. not taking anything away from gtcc but to say one of the best in the nation is a little bit much. when you make to the world series a few times then you can say that. gtcc has a good team but lets hold back on that in the nation thing,

  • Andy said,

Keep an eye on this team….Those other teams you mentioned are on the way down and GTCC is on the way up….

Time to get on the local bandwagon, the other trains have left the station….

  • Dudley alum said,

I agree with you Andy they have some good baseball players on this team.

  • Andy said,

I just posted the GTCC roster here on the home page of our site and sure, it’s not the ACC, but it looks pretty good….

Lots of locals with Kirkpatrick, Brandenburg, O’Dell, Ty Powell(SEG), Mark Leake(WG) Corey McKinney(NWG) and more….Check out the roster, it is up at the top of this page…..

andy i value your thinking but i dont see those teams on the decline, reloading maybe but not decline. if they can beat those teams i will give them their due , but until then they have a little ways to go. gtcc does have a good team no disrespect to them at all but to be named in the top programs get to a world series or win your conference many times over .
