In the Semifinals of the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference tournament, the #1 Cowboys
faced off against the #5 Vikings. The Cowboys were playing without starting point
guard Stevie Williams, and it showed. The first quarter had the teams go back and
forth with Southwest edging Northwest 17-15. The second quarter started the same way
until the Cowboys turned up the pressure and was able to solve the Vikings defense
and use a 14-0 run to push the lead to 10. At the half Southwest was up 42-31. The
Cowboys got the lead up to 13 within the first minute o the third quarter. Then in a
blink the Vikings came out on fire including 4 3’s by Cody Hylton and took the lead
at 58-57, scoring 31 points which matched their first half tally. By the time the
3rd ended the score was at 62-57. The Cowboys fought back quickly by scoring 8
straight and taking a 65-62 lead on a Jordan Hanner 3 pointer. Fighting for their
lives, the Vikings would not go quietly. The teams traded the lead as Northwest
pushed their lead to 73-70. Then the quick striking Cowboys scored 10 straight again
to take an 80-73. Once again the Vikings showed grit and not only tied the game at
82, but after a Cowboy turnover they took an 84-82 lead with about 54 seconds left.
Southwest came down and got a great conventional 3 point play by Senior LaKeith
Scott to make it 85-84. The Cowboys went 3 for 4 from the stripe to hold off upset
minded Northwest 88-84. The Vikings were lead by Cody Hylton and Ryan Doerr with 19
and 16. Southwest was lead by Terrell Leach, Andrew Bostic and Joran Hanner with 24,
16 and 16 apiece. Southwest advances to the Piedmont Triad 4A Conference title game
