Charlie Scott says, “I could never enjoy college basketball, there was way too much pressure not to fail”…..

Charlie Scott once scored 40 points in an ACC Tournament game and he is one of the best to ever play the game on any level, but his college experience at the University of North Carolina was never really a whole lot of fun….

Great read on “The Great Scott” from WRALSportsFan.com:

“When I played basketball, I never got the opportunity to enjoy it,” he said. “It was more of a relief that I didn’t fail.”

Scott’s Carolina career was far from a failure. He averaged 22.1 points and 7.1 rebounds a game during his three varsity seasons. His Tar Heel teams made two Final Fours and won two ACC Tournaments.

  1. You gotta love Charlie Scott…..He looked like “Flying Scott” out there on the floor and the #33 will always be remembered by ACC and all basketball fans alike….I not even looking back for it, it had to be #33 for Scott and I’ll stick with it…..

  2. Before there was ever a Jordan,or a Ford,Worthy, McAdoo, there was “the great Charlie Scott” ! He paved the way for the Carters,Rasheed ,Lawsons, Barnes etc. He paid the ultimate price so that those who followed wouldn’t have to prove that they belonged. His teams may not have won the big one,but , he’s the reason that so many more have followed the road to Chapel Hill. Met him once while attending college at A&T through a mutual friend. My favorite all time tarheel ! # 33

  3. Was my idol as a child..Had a chance to meet him a couple of years ago in greensboro when he was coaching his son’s AAU team…what surprised me was that most of the kids these days dont even know who he is…
