Fayetteville, N.C. — Brock Moorman (Owensboro, KY/Owensboro) had 14 points and Lewis Owenby (Black Mountain, NC/Owen) added 12 as Greensboro College won at Methodist, 62-59, in a USA South quarterfinal game on Tuesday.

“We had a tremendous effort tonight,” said GC Head Coach Bryan Galuski. “We showed a lot of grit and created 26 turnovers that resulted in 16 fast break points. It’s great to be advancing in the tournament.”

The fifth seeded Pride snapped a six game losing streak and improved to 12-14. Methodist, the four seed, ended its year at 10-16.

Moorman was 6-12 from the field and grabbed eight rebounds. Owenby was 5-7 shooting and had two blocked shots.

The Pride was ahead 31-22 at halftime and led by as many as 16 points in the second half, yet MU rallied.

Travis Fulp hit a jumper to give the Monarchs its only lead of the game at 57-56 with 3:56 remaining. Damian Dixon (Tampa, FL/Wharton) then converted a three-pointer and The Pride maintained the lead the rest of the contest.

Mark Jernigan(Eastern Guilford HS) had a game-high 16 points for Methodist. His three-pointer with one second left missed.

The Pride plays at top seed NC Wesleyan on Friday night. The Bishops, which bested GC by five and three points in their meetings this year, had a bye on Tuesday to the semifinals.
