Congratulations to the WCDS Varsity Boy’s team who won the state 2A title tonight. They played hard and put together a great team effort! With Nwamu and Level having to sit with 4 fouls each, Keemon Ingram and Josh Burton came in and helped stretch a 6 pt lead to 12. Despite a strong Northside team and some very questionable calls from the refs, the Wildcats kept their composure and brought home the gold! Congrats to Coach Kahny and his team for a great year! We are so proud of you all!
It wasn’t just Ingram and Burton – it was the whole team…finally! Cole Morgenstern played one of his best games. Davis Tucker played hard until an injury pulled him out of the game. The whole team gelled at the right time. While others talked about the “superstars” (high school superstars?), the role players proved their worth as they went head to head with the number one team in the playoffs. Whether it was Ike’s three pointers, Bello’s slashes to the hoop, or Level playing hard lockdown defense for two nights in a row against 7″0 last night and 6’8″ tonight, they really played good team ball. When they tried to double Duece or Ike, Morgenstern was there with key layups. When Westchester got in foul trouble (let’s not even discuss the referees), Keemon Ingram hit key midrange jumpers then got back to back blocks. When Plummer sat down, Josh Burton ran the team like a point guard should. They all played hard and deserved the championship win! As Wildcat Mom said: We are VERY proud of our kids! Congrats for a wonderful year!
After all these young men have been through I can not tell you how proud we are of them and of all the coaches!
Go Cats!
