Greensboro College baseball falls to CNU, but get solid start from Jacob Cadle(WCDS)

Greensboro, N.C. — Christopher Newport beat Greensboro College, 3-1, in the USA South opener for both teams. Michael Cobb (Union, NC/Union County High School) went 3-4 with two doubles to lead Pride hitters. GC dropped to 4-8, 0-1 and CNU improved to 7-1, 1-0.

Cobb doubled in the first inning and scored an unearned run for The Pride’s lone tally. GC got a fine pitching performance from starter Jacob Cadle (Denton, NC/Westchester Country Day School). He tossed 6 2/3 innings, scattered four hits and stuck out six Captain hitters.

GC’s lead held up through six innings. CNU, however, plated single runs in the last three frames for the final margin Greensboro had bases loaded and one out in the eighth inning but could not tie the game.

Reliever John Atkins (Raleigh, NC/Middle Creek High School) took the loss for GC. Captain starter Sean Chistaz got the win. Drue Vernon had two hits and a double for CNU.

The two teams play again on Sunday(Today). First pitch is 4 p.m. at War Memorial Stadium.
