Kimberly Keys keys Guilford doubleheader softball victories with 9 ribees at NC Wesleyan

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – Kimberly Keys totaled nine runs batted in over two
Guilford College softball victories at North Carolina Wesleyan College
Wednesday. Keys had three hits and a career-high six RBI in the Quakers’
11-2 opening game win. She added three runs batted in and two hits in the
nightcap, an 8-0 Guilford victory. The Quakers (6-4) won both games in five
innings.

Keys had a sacrifice fly in the day’s first inning, which helped Guilford to
a 3-0 lead. North Carolina Wesleyan (0-6) answered with two run in the
first. Keys had two-run doubles in Guilford’s three-run fourth and fifth
innings, which put the game out of reach. Quakers’ junior Jessica Burcham
(4-0) settled down after a rocky first inning and finished with eight
strikeouts.

Guilford’s Samantha Golley was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Teammate
Cynthia Hayes went 2-4 with two doubles and three runs scored.

Keys’ two-out, two-run single in the second opened a 4-0 Guilford lead in
the nightcap. That was all the offense rookie pitcher Ashley Boteler (2-0)
needed as she retired the first nine batters she faced before working out of
a bases-loaded jam in the fourth. She allowed only two hits and struck out
six in her second shutout of the year.

Guilford’s Courtney Kozar sparked a four-run fifth inning with a two-run
single. Golley was 3-for-3 in the second game as well and also had two RBI.

Guilford is back in action Mar. 7 against Penn State-Hazleton in the start
of its six-game spring break trip to ESPN’s Wide World of Sports in
Kissimmee, Fla.
