Greensboro College softball hangs two in the Florida sun

Kissimmee, Fla — Greensboro College defeated Muskingum College, 11-2, and Catholic University, 4-2, on its opening day of the Rebel Spring Games.

Hannah Pennell (Statesville, NC/West Iredell) earned the first win of the day for GC. She pitched shut out ball the last three innings of the five-inning game in place of starter Brittany David (Concord, NC/Northwest).

The Pride knocked 13 hits against the Muskies. The top four hitters in GC’s lineup–Cyndel Henson (Landrum, SC/Blue Ridge ), Brittany Teer (Thomasville, NC/Ledford), Rebecca Pink (Apex, NC/Apex) and Brittany Parsons (Wilkesboro, NC/West Wilkes)– all had two hits. Fifth place batter Jessica Childers (Taylorsville/Alexander Central) crushed a three-run home run for Greensboro.

In the nightcap, freshman Kelsey Sanfilippo (New Bern, NC/New Bern ) hurled a one hitter for GC. Teer recorded nine put-outs from her shortstop position, and Kanisha Fogg (Franklinton/South Granville ) went 2-3 with two RBI at the plate.

GC (4-4) plays Ursinus and Coast Guard on Monday in the Sunshine State.
