Men’s All-ACC Basketball selections announced

from www.theacc.com:

GREENSBORO, N.C.- Duke guard Nolan Smith is the only unanimous selection to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball first team.

The All-ACC teams were announced Monday following a vote of 75 members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association.

Smith was joined on the first team by Duke teammate Kyle Singler, Maryland’s Jordan Williams, Virginia Tech’s Malcolm Delaney and Boston College’s Reggie Jackson. Smith, who leads the ACC with an average of 21.6 points and is second in assists, also made the league’s all-defense team.

For the first time in league history, the outright ACC regular-season champion failed to place any players on the first team. North Carolina did have three players make the second team and another on the third team.

Tyler Zeller, John Henson and Harrison Barnes were on the second team and Kendall Marshall was a third-team selection, making the Tar Heels the first team to place four players across the three teams since they did it in 2005, when they won the national championship.

The Tar Heels also had two players unanimously selected to two other teams. Barnes appeared on all 75 ballots in voting for the all-freshman team, and Henson was a unanimous pick to the all-defensive team.

Delaney, the ACC’s second-leading scorer at 18.8 points per game, and Singler were repeat first-team selections.

Barnes, who led all ACC freshmen with a 14-point average, was joined on the freshman team by Marshall, Wake Forest’s Travis McKie, Maryland’s Terrell Stoglin and North Carolina State’s C.J. Leslie.

Henson, who blocked at least one shot in the Tar Heels’ last 15 games, and Smith were joined on the defensive team by Georgia Tech’s Iman Shumpert, Florida State’s Chris Singleton and Clemson’s Jerai Grant.

  1. Singler on first team is a joke. Terrible second half of the ACC season and 6 for 31 in their two biggest games of the year against Carolina.
Reggie Jackson averaged single digits in his three games against Duke and Carolina, the two best teams in the league. No way should he be first team.
And how could four voters leave Kendall Marshall off of their Rookie team ballot? Incredible.

  2. Dont you know. The sports media all went to Carolina and they all are Carolina fans. Just ask any ABC type. That is if they ever show up here again.

  3. It’s the SEASON this is based on, not 1-2 games against specific opponets. Yes, Carolina is hot now but before the switch to Kendall Marshall no one on the team even looked like 2nd team ACC. If they continue playing like current they will win ACC Tournament, one of their players will be MVP and you’ll have less to complain about.

  4. Hot Now?

    Nov 30, 2010 4-3
    March 8, 2011 24-6
12-1 since loss at Ga Tech in mid January

Duke goes 2-2 and is still ranked higher than Carolina.
Carolina not even in Top 10 until this week.

Who exactly are the media darlings again?

Less than stellar shooting will return and Carolina will lose to a senior laden mid-major somewhere along the way. If all stay …. maybe next year.

Carolina loses 5 scholarship players since last summer off of a NIT team and wins ACC regular season. Roy … Coach of the Year?

    Let the madness begin!

  5. Calvin,
I am not complaining that no one from Carolina made 1st team. I am just saying that Singler and Jackson should not be 1st team. Singler faded terribly the second half of the ACC season and choked in their two biggest games. That is not 1st team caliber. He was voted 1st team the minute he chose to come back for his senior year. Singler is a fine player and has had a great career. I’m just saying he has not played like one of the five best players in the league for half of the ACC schedule. And Jackson is simply not one of the five best players in the league. He is a gunner and good defenses shut him down. He wouldn’t even start at Duke or Carolina. It is as though the people who vote on all-ACC simply look at scoring averages.

  6. This is the worst first team All-ACC that I have ever seen. Nobody from North Carolina on this team? They are the Conference Champions and Duke has two players on here? We just beat Duke by a bundle on Saturday night. Henson, Zeller, Barnes or Marshall, somebody has to be on here. Who picked these teams, Dick Vitale? This is a joke right? Take Singler and Jackson off of here and put Henson and Zeller on the team. They deserve it and the others don’t.
