GREENSBORO SPORTS COUNCIL DISTRIBUTES FUNDS TO PIZZA HUT INVITATIONAL SCHOOLS…..

Invitations extended for 36th Annual Tournament

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Greensboro Sports Council has donated more than
$86,000 to the eight schools that participated in the 35th annual Pizza Hut
Invitational tournament Dec. 28-30, 2010, it was announced today. In
addition, the Sports Council donated $10,000 in scholarships and charity.

Record-breaking fundraising offset higher tournament expenses associated
with holding some of the event in the Greensboro Coliseum Arena rather than
the Special Events Center. With this year’s donations to the schools, the
Greensboro Sports Council has now distributed nearly $1.1 million to the
tournament’s participating schools in the last 12 years.

“Due to the outstanding work of many Greensboro Sports Council volunteers,
we are thrilled to be able to continue to help our local high schools
through these contributions,” Greensboro Sports Council president Donald
Moore said. “The tremendous community support that this event enjoys allows
us to significantly assist our participating schools with their athletic
programs, and that is our goal every year.”

In addition to the school donations, the Council awarded $8,000 for its four
annual Bill Lee Memorial Scholarships. The Council made two charitable
donations: $1,000 to the Children’s Home Society and $1,000 to the
Corrigan-Faircloth Chapter of the National Football Foundation to sponsor a
scholarship.

The 36th annual Pizza Hut Invitational is set for Dec. 26-28, 2011. The
Greensboro Sports Council has extended invitations to the same eight schools
that played in the 2010 event: Greensboro Day School, Grimsley High School,
Northeast Guilford High School, Northern Guilford High School, Northwest
Guilford High School, Page High School, Ragsdale High School and Smith High
School. All invitational have been accepted.
