Greensboro College womens basketball earns three post season awards

Greensboro, NC — D3hoops.com announced its All-region teams today. Greensboro College garenered three awards, including Randy Tuggle’s Coach of the Year award. Danielle Duncan (Greensboro, NC/Ragsdale), and Nikki Wilborn (Graham NC/Graham) made the first and second teams respectively.

Coach Tuggle, in his second year as the head coach of The Pride women’s basketball program, earned the D3hoops.com Coach of the Year award after guiding GC to its best season ever, and the best one-season turnaround in NCAA history. The Pride finished with an overall record of 28-3, and won the USAS Regular Season championship. In the NCAA tournament, Greensboro made it all the way to the Sweet Sixteen before losing to University of Chicago. Tuggle has already been named USAS conference Coach of the Year.

Duncan, a junior center, led GC in points with 21.6 per contest, rebounds with 9.6 per game, blocked shots with 1.2, and minutes, logging 31.1 per outing. She hit a career best 33 points against Methodist on Jan. 28, and ripped down 24 boards against Piedmont on Feb. 6. Duncan was already named to the USAS First team. The junior was selected to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week twice this season.

Wilborn, a senior guard, was GC’s most feared shooter this season leading The Pride in 3-pointers made. Named to the USAS First team, Wilborn averaged 14.1ppg, 4.0 assists, and 5.3 rebounds this season. Wilborn was the only player to record two triple-doubles in ’10-’11. She was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week when she averaged 20.0ppg, 11.5 boards, and 10.5 steals to go with 7.5 assists.
