Greensboro College softball starts conference season with DH split vs. Ferrum

Greensboro, NC — The Greensboro College softball team opened its USA South conference season against Ferrum College at Pride softball field. GC lost the first game, 2-1, then came back to win the second game, 6-3. Rebecca Pink (Apex, NC/Apex) and Jessica Childers (Taylorsville/Alexander Central) knocked two RBI each for The Pride in game two.

In the first game, GC was up 1-0 going into the sixth inning when Ferrum drove in its two runs. The Pride were able to get two runners on in the bottom of the sixth, but stranded them on two consecutive outs to end the inning. Kanisha Fogg (Franklinton/South Granville ) drove in the lone run for GC. Kelsey Sanfilippo (New Bern, NC/New Bern ) took the loss.

Rachel Shumaker scored once, and had a RBI for Ferrum

GC came out with a point to prove in the second game. The reigning USAS champions put it on Ferrum with three runs in the first and second innings to take command of the game. With two outs on the board in the first, Childers dropped a bomb to right field, doubling, and scoring two on the hit. Childers would also score in the inning. After getting three of the first four out for Ferrum, GC piled on three more runs in the second. Two runs coming off of a double from Pink. Hannah Pennell (Statesville, NC/West Iredell) earned the win for Greensboro.

The Pride play at Lynchburg on Thursday(today). The first game is at 3pm.
