BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Bridgewater College banged out 26 hits in Sunday’s doubleheader sweep of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) rival Guilford College. The Eagles (13-4, 4-2 ODAC) won the opener, 8-2, and took the nightcap, 11-4, to extend the Quakers’ losing streak to six games.

Bridgewater’s Sarah Heretick went two-for-four with three RBI in the opening game. She had a three-run double in the Eagles’ four-run sixth inning. The four runs restored Bridgewater’s cushion after Guilford pulled within 4-2 with two runs in the top of the sixth.

Eagles’ starter Heather Jenkins improved to 6-1 with a complete-game six hitter. She yielded one earned run and fanned five in seven innings.
Courtney Kozar had two of the Quakers’ six hits and stole a base.

The Quakers (13-11, 1-5 ODAC) took a 1-0 lead in game two on Sarah Cutright’s RBI double in the first. Bridgewater responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame and never looked back. Drew Rutledge’s three-run double highlighted the big inning and helped her to a two-for-four day at the plate with four runs batted in.

Cutright added another RBI double in Guilford’s three-run third that drew the Quakers to within 5-4, but Bridgewater reliever Amber Marstin (2-3) shut the Quakers down after entering the game in the third inning. She scattered three hits, fanned five and did not walk a batter in four-and-a-third innings.

In addition to banging out seven doubles among 13 hits in the nightcap, Bridgewater was aided by eight walks issued by Guilford pitching. Emily Morris had three doubles and scored twice for the Eagles. Leigh Lam doubled twice and had three RBI.

Guilford’s Cutright went three-for-three at the plate with two RBI. Kozar and Morgan Andrews both added two hits apiece.

The Quakers visit Greensboro College in a nonconference doubleheader Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
