from Guilford Technical Community College baseball:

The GTCC Titans split a doubleheader with Region X rival Louisburg College on
Saturday afternoon. GTCC runs their overall record to 16-6 and their conference
mark to 6-4.

Game 1 was a pitching duel that saw the Titans lose a heartbreaker 1-0. Matt Dillon
allowed only 1 run and 5 hits over 7 innings while striking out 8. Unfortunately,
it was all Louisburg would need as they limited GTCC to only 4 hits. Trevor Leonard
tried to spark a Titan rally in the bottom of the 7th with a single (his second hit
of the game). He advanced to second on a wild pitch. With two outs and Leonard on
second, Titan pinch hitter Brandon Dhue made a bid to win the game with one swing as
he hit a towering fly ball to left field only to have it caught at the warning track
for the final out of the game.

Game 2 saw much of the same drama, but this time Titan pitcher Chris Erker stifled
Louisburg for 7 innings to pick up the win for GTCC. Erker struck out 7 Hurricane
batters and allowed only 3 hits to pick up his second win of the season. Brandon
Dhue rallied the Titans with an RBI single in the 5th inning to tie the score at
1-1. Louisburg took advantage of a Titan error in the top of the sixth inning to
gain a 2-1 lead. Paco Martin led off the bottom of the sixth with a single. He
moved to second on a fielder’s choice and came around to tie the score at 2 on a
Hurricane throwing error on a Trevor Leonard sac bunt attempt. Matt Petrone then
scored on a wild pitch to give the Titans a 3-2 lead going into the last inning.
Erker struck out the final Louisburg batter to secure the win for the Titans.

The Titans are back in action TODAY with another doubleheader with Louisburg
College. First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 1:00. Games will be played at
